Orthopaedic Surgery

What Is Orthopedic Surgery?

Orthopedic surgery is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries and diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system. Our orthopedic surgeons at Group23 Sports Medicine diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions involving bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.

Our surgeons use surgical and non-surgical methods to address various issues such as fractures, sports injuries, and arthritis. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision and to provide specialized care by thoroughly explaining procedures, potential risks, and more. We work closely with you from the first consultation all the way to recovery.

Referral Required

Please note that we only accept referrals from sports medicine physicians and other orthopedic surgeons at this time. Patients with chronic injuries referred for surgery must have gone through a thorough and supervised non-operative management program which can include but is not limited to bracing, exercise program, manual therapy treatment and injection therapy. It would be appreciated if relevant imaging such as an MR or weight-bearing hip-to-ankle x-rays are ordered before sending the referral.

What We Do

Many orthopaedic surgeons subspecialize in specific areas: here at Group23 Sports Medicine, we are lucky to have widely recognized orthopaedic surgeons in subspecialties of trauma and sports-related procedures for the knee as well as repairs and stabilization procedures for the shoulder. We offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.

Non-Surgical Options

Our goal is to find the least intrusive option for your recovery so surgery is considered only after all other non-invasive treatments have been fully explored. This may include modalities such as activity modification, medications, injections, or physical therapy, all of which can be accessed at Group23 Sports Medicine with our sports physicians and physiotherapists.

Surgical Options

Surgery may be necessary to restore mobility or function in certain cases of musculoskeletal illness or injury. Surgery will be considered in the case where the illness/injury is of an urgent matter, where the current trajectory of the joint health is declining or after a trial of conservative management. The surgical team will seek to understand the demands of your lifestyle and your goals, to help you determine if surgery is for you.

Knee Surgeries

The surgeons at Group23 Sports Medicine perform the following knee surgeries; ligament reconstruction, meniscus repairs, muscle tendon repairs, fracture fixations, osteotomies, allograft transplants and unilateral knee arthroplasties.
